HART previews Rail at Youth Train Community Day
The Honolulu Rail Transit Project (HART) opened its doors to different high schools around the island in its Halaulani Station for “HART Youth Train Community Day” on February 7. HART invited students from 6 schools (Aiea, Campbell, Kapolei, Pearl City, Waianae, and Waipahu) to the Halaulani Station near Leeward Community College. Students from all Waipahu High School academies learned about opportunities related to the Rail.
Waipahu High School is working alongside Hitachi Rail to launch a pilot internship for the summer after the 2020-2021 school year. Six students will have an opportunity to work in three different professional areas involving the rail: operations, engineering, and training.
HART is the first fully automated mass transportation system in the country. It will be driverless and automated from its Rail Operations Center. The train will stop at 21 stations from East Kapolei to Ala Moana, connecting different parts of Oahu along its 20-mile track.
