Twenty seven students from the Academy of Professional and Public Services were granted the opportunity to travel to Japan during Fall Break 2023.

Juniors and seniors from the culinary arts pathway, AP Japanese class, and lower level Japanese classes were invited to go on this trip. The group of students were accompanied by five staff members: Chef David, Chef Matsuo, Chef MJ, Smith Sensei, and Assistant Principal Ms. Soleta.

Their trip lasted a total of 10 days. They departed Oahu on October 7 and returned on the 17th.

While based in Tokyo, they were able to explore many attractions in Japan. Some highlights from the trip included visiting Mount Fuji, Meiji Jingu, Odaiba, Kamagaya Great Buddha, Yokohama Chinatown, and Tokyo DisneySea.

It is no secret that Japan is home to one of the best cuisines and customer service. The intent of this trip was for the culinary students to learn about new foods, recipes, and customer service skills. Students will be able to put these skills to practice in their very own Marauder Cafe, which is scheduled to open in February of 2024.

In addition, students taking the Japanese language were able to expand their knowledge of Japanese culture. This trip was a great opportunity for students to practice their language skills in a real world setting.

This year marks my third year being a part of the Waipahu High School cheer team, so you may spot me on the sideline. Some of my plans for the future include: attending either the University of Utah or Pennsylvania State University, cheering on the sideline of a college team, and becoming an elementary school teacher.
