Throughout October, Hawai’i has been celebrating Honolulu Pride Month, a project organized by the Hawai’i LGBT Legacy Foundation.
Pride month brings together LGBTQIA+ identifying people and allies to celebrate sexuality and gender identities in a safe space, commemorate advocacy and progress for their rights, and stand as a symbol of pride for those that may not be able to celebrate.
Aside from National Pride Month in June, Honolulu Pride is celebrated in October to coincide with LGBT History Month, National Coming Out Day on October 11, and Spirit/Unity Day on October 19.
Celebration of the main event, the annual Honolulu Pride Parade, is taking place on Saturday, October 21. This year’s theme is “Rooted In Pride: Homecoming.” This year’s Grand Marshal and Festival Headliner is Sasha Colby, 2023 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Walking beside parade participants and organizations is the Waipahu High School Love is Found Everywhere (LIFE) Club.
