Last Monday, we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As a result, students and teachers had the day off! I hope everybody enjoyed their three day weekend. But, who was Martin Luther King Jr. and why is there a holiday for him?
Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader who fought for racial equality in the 1950s and 1960s, according to an article published by The Guardian. King believed in nonviolent resistance. He organized peaceful protests, marches and speeches to spread his message.
Today, King is remembered as a hero. His legacy continues to inspire people to fight for justice and equality. This is why we take the time to remember and commemorate him.
