Apple announced their annual September event on September 7 with the tagline, “California streaming.” The event started streaming virtually on September 14. It opened with a rendition of “California Soul” and cinematic shots of places in California.

Afterwards, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, took over with Apple TV+ content updates. Lots of shows like The Morning Show Season 2 and the season premiere of Foundation are coming in the next few weeks. 

9th Generation iPad

Next up Cook passed it over to a colleague as Apple announced the new 9th generation iPad. Now it features the faster A13 Bionic chip, an increase from the A12 from last year. The front camera also has a 12 Megapixel Ultra Wide angle lens and Center Stage, which is a camera that follows you when you’re moving around and adapts when more people show up in its view. 

The new iPad will ship with iOS 15, starting at $329 with 64GB in space grey and silver color options.

Then they surprised us with a huge iPad mini update, as it now has an all-screen design with rounded corners, and fun colors like, Purple, Pink, Starlight, and Space Grey. Furthermore, there’s an increase in screen size from 7.9 inches to 8.3 inches while keeping the same form factor of the iPad mini. It also has TouchID in the Top Button just like the iPad Air, and has updated its power drastically with a 40% faster CPU and 80% faster GPU performance. Now it features the USB-C port, a jump from the lightning port, and 5G connectivity. And especially, the back now has a 12 Megapixel camera and a TrueTone flash. 

It also has the 12 Megapixel Ultra Wide camera and Center Stage on the front cameras. Now audio sounds better with landscape stereo speakers. You can even express your creativity more with support of the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. All of the iPads in the lineup are made with a 100% recycled aluminum enclosure. The new iPad mini starts at $499 and will ship with iPadOS 15.

Apple Watch Series 7

Next, let’s turn to the Apple Watch. They revealed it with a video showcasing its durability with someone falling off of a bike in a dusty environment. Now it has a larger screen, and the bezels are reduced to 1.7 millimeters. The shape of the watch has been refined with more rounded corners. It’s even up to 70% brighter indoors with its always-on display. 

Since the screen is bigger, the User Interface features bigger buttons, more room for text, and new watch faces, as well as a new keyboard. It’s currently the most durable Apple Watch ever with a crack-resistant screen, now with a dust-resistant rating of IP6X, and a water resistance rating of WR50, so it is extremely durable in any environment. Additionally, it has 18-hour battery life with faster charging from 0-80% in 45 minutes. It’ll be available in 5 new aluminum colors, Midnight, Starlight, Green, Blue, (Product)Red and Silver, Graphite, and Gold stainless steel, Natural, and Space Black Titanium. It’ll be available this Fall. They moved on to updates with their fitness service, Apple Fitness+, expanding it to 15 countries, with more exercises and trainers. 

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro

Lastly, Apple announced the new iPhone 13 in a fun and colorful reveal video. The iPhone mini has a 5.4” Display and the iPhone 13 has a 6.1” Display, and now has new cameras arranged diagonally. It features 5 colors, Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and (Product)Red. 

The notch that houses FaceID and the TrueDepth camera is 20% smaller, adding more screen. 

Its most notable feature is the advanced Dual Camera System. They’ve implemented Cinematic Mode which produces extremely high-quality footage and shoots in Dolby Vision HDR. Features like Night Mode, Portrait Mode, Smart HDR 4, and Deep Fusion create stunning photos. The Camera app now has Photographic Styles. Unlike filters, Photographic Styles add tones and vividness to certain parts of the photo, while it preserves skin tone. The True Depth camera system, also known as the front camera, has all of the powerful features that the back cameras do, having the same high quality Super Retina XDR Display, so it will have bright, colorful, and sharp quality. 

Even the battery has been amped up too. The iPhone 13’s battery will last up to 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12’s. It has the most powerful chip ever, the A15 Bionic, so your games, apps, photos, and even messages will load with blazing speed. And of course, it supports 5G and will ship with iOS 15. 

And finally, Apple revealed the iPhone 13 Pro, the most powerful iPhone they’ve ever created. It comes in Graphite, Silver, Gold, and a brand-new Sierra Blue. The iPhone 13 Pro has a 6.1” display, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7” display. They now have something the iPad Pro has, a ProMotion Display. A ProMotion display is an effect that makes content on it move around smoothly at 120Hz. It’s adaptive as it ranges from 60Hz to 120 Hz, so you don’t need to worry about it draining your battery. Like other Pro generations, it has surgical-grade stainless steel borders, giving it an elegant shine. All iPhone 13 models feature a Ceramic Shield front glass, which is one of the strongest types of glass. It has a IP68 rating of water-resistance, meaning you don’t need to worry if you spill coffee on it or drop it in a swimming pool for a long amount of time. The Pro camera system gets its biggest update ever with a new hardware that captures much more detail, and extremely powerful software for new photo and video techniques. A powerful and fast chip that makes it all possible.
